My Expanding System Map Project

in System Maps

Over the last few days I’ve been updating and refining my System Maps templates, the result of which will be a very useful tool for VisiOlo users, an update for iMOS Treasure Map customers, a re-launch of my iMOS System Map Templates offer, and a strengthened sales funnel for VisiOlo.  One little project has expanded into a major improvement in my overall marketing system.

The more systematic and integrated I get with my marketing strategy, the more I find that effort put in to one project can benefit other projects with a little bit of ‘re-purposing’ work.

I’ve worked quite a bit over the past year to tighten up my strategy and project focus and I’m happy to say that I’m seeing the fruits of my labors.  All of the projects I’m working (with the exception of one big one) are components of the same strategy, the center of which is VisiOlo.

It’s nice to see several projects, which started as separate and distant points on my strategic timeline, come together.  Projects are strongest when they are intertwined — when the success of one feeds the success of another.

But that also makes for some interesting project management challenges. With everything intertwined, it becomes harder to choose priorities but choosing the right priorities is not as critical as it is when projects serve separate strategies.

For instance, I’ve been working on a project for VisiOlo users to provide a set of ‘System Map’ templates — flowcharts of common information marketing systems. I’m excited about the progress I’ve been able to make since the last version and it’s a key project on many different levels.

As soon as I completed the first revision, I realized that I need to share this file with all of my customers who purchased my “iMOS Treasure Map and Video Tour” product.  This product was the first system flowchart tool and training that I released.  Since the updated templates for VisiOlo users are a big step forward, I want my Treasure Map customers to get the update as well.

Then I realized that I should update the offer and deliverables for the Treasure Map which was first launched early in 2008. If I’m going to update it, I should also do a re-launch. But it’s time well spent, because the iMOS products are part of the front-end of the sales funnel for VisiOlo.

Phew!

See what I mean? One thing leads to another, it’s all intertwined. Improvements in one area benefit the entire strategy.  A rising tide floats all boats.
